Chana began painting with watercolors in 1993 at Central Carolina Community College located in Sanford, NC, with instructor John Wicker. Absolutely in love with painting, she pursued additional instruction through workshops with national known painters, which she continues to do to this day. In 1996, Chana followed up on another medium, pottery. I studied at RCC in Randolph County with Louis Ragsdale and Chris Luther. I'm extremely fortunate to have a number of successful artist within my family who have encouraged and supported by art dreams.
Chana paints from life (en plein air) or from a photograph she's taken. She uses a fusion of brilliant colors representing North Carolina and North Carolina life. She incorporates various styles in her paintings attempting to better represent the inherent beauty of her subject. Painting impasto provides sharp lines and present striking contrasts in texture and color with her oil paints.
Chana's pottery is generally utilitarian with a flair to the artistcally pleasing, using techniques such as hand altering, adding impressions and textures, inscribing, and wax resists. Each technique is selected to obtain the utmost in both beauty and usability. She uses a medium fired stoneware clay which is dishwaster, oven, and microwave safe when firing is complete.
Chana recently opened her own Art Gallery/Studio in Siler City, NC, where she works and shares her space with other artists. She sells the artwork of 45 other local artists....pottery, original paintings, slate work, wood work, jewelry, fused glass, fiber art, soaps, and hand forged iron. April 11 – 13, 2012
Raleigh, North Carolina
From April 11 - 13, 2012, North Carolina State University’s College of Textiles will hold its first Fashion Week to showcase design leadership and creativity. The week’s events will focus on innovation and originality from the opening global fashion show to educational forums, exhibitions, designer Marketplace and the closing fashion show and award ceremony.
We are seeking outstanding designer/craftsmen to reflect the high standards of design talent making products in North Carolina. Because of your standing in the designer/maker community and as aguild member, we would like to invite you to join us as one of the exhibitors in the Fashion Week 2012 Designer Marketplace on the Centennial Campus in Raleigh. We anticipate that the events will have attendance of over 600 – 800 NCSU College of Textile students, 200 – 300 industry personnel, and 800 – 1,000 fashion show attendees including university, industry and the textile and apparel community individuals as well as university faculty from all over the world (from London to Hong Kong).
Fashion Week 2012 will provide a leadership challenge for College of Textiles’ students and faculty to elevate design and marketing activities for apparel and home textile products as well as a fantastic opportunity for North Carolina artisans/craftsmen to share their expertise and creative product with global, state and local individuals. The Marketplace welcomes submissions from designers working in all media including artwork, ceramics, metal, paper and wood, but will give priority to fashion accessories, jewelry, photography, wearable art, and related home products. Please provide resume and at least three representative images of your work.
Supported by major industry sponsorship and a professional marketing campaign, the Designer Marketplace 2012 will be promoted in a “kick-off” press conference, featured in the program listings and will be announced during the two major university/industry forums focusing on innovation and creativity!
